Oliver Strauss is a chef and emerging visual artist based in Brisbane, currently studying Visual Art at Griffith University. His practice operates at the intersection of painting and sculpture, informed by geometric abstraction, post-medium theory, and minimalist aesthetics. Technical drawing underpins his process, serving as a springboard for both his painting and sculptural inquiry. Strauss embraces chance within his creative process, allowing intuitive decisions to shape the work through formal development. Strauss investigates spatial dynamics through the interplay of material, colour, shape, and composition, using abstraction as a means to access complex, non-representational ideas that transcend narrative and gesture toward the metaphysical. He has exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions, including Bellas Gallery’s final group show in 2018 and a collaboration with Eugene Carchesio in 2020.
